We began – that is, Will began – as a copywriter, and on some level we still approach every design or construction job with the goal of making the text clear and the voices distinct. Over recent years this tendency has led us towards a sort of synthesis work that gathers many points of view into our audio and video database tools and then combines them into a coherent report (in print or online) that still has the flavour and diversity of original testimony.

The most recent example of this is the Knowledge Transfer Project for MLA London, in which the views of hundreds of people were combined to produce a summary of relations between business and cultural institutions and how they might be improved. We did a similar thing for Defra a couple of years ago, using interviews and workshops to gather a historical record of their foresight work and turn that into a set of guiding notes for future projects. The process is largely automated but the output is very carefully composed and the combination seems to be a powerful one.

We also do simpler writing work from time to time, in articles and sites and the occasional pet project. Everything on the public Lord Mayor’s Show site was written by us, for example. Like all our work, the style tends to be simple and to the point. If you’ve got writing work that would benefit from some clarity of expression, please do get in touch.
